Gal Oya National Park is the most untouched of all of Sri Lanka’s National Parks.
It encompasses the country’s largest inland body of water, the Senanayake Samudraya Lake, with many small islands providing one of the best places in the world to see the Asian elephant in its natural habitat.
Gal Oya is the only place in Sri Lanka where safaris can be conducted by boat, giving a unique and special perspective whilst watching animals as they come to the water’s edge to drink and forage along the shore.
The highlights are seeing wild elephants swim from island to island, as well as experiencing the thousands of birds.
Eight spacious bungalows are nestled in the forest canopy, each one specially placed to take advantage of the spectacular views.
Each bungalow is 800sqft consisting of a private living room which joins onto a spacious bedroom with a king sized bed. Both rooms feature spectacular floor to ceiling glass windows and doors which open onto a private veranda.
To top it off, each bungalow has a large en-suite bathroom with his and her sinks and both indoor and outdoor showers.
There is also a two bedroom villa perched at the highest point of Gal Oya Lodge, which has the most breath taking views. Connecting both bedrooms is a spacious 680 sqft open plan living room which is the perfect spot to read and do nothing while enjoying the sound of nature all around you. Each bedroom has a wraparound veranda with wide views over the canopy to catch both sunrise and sunset.
Each room can be booked individually, but are best enjoyed together with friends or family.
